我觉得for是“当作,作为”的意思。并且可以省略。如:I came here (for) the first time。再者,关于that的问题其实是定语从句的一个问题,比较好点的语法书上都有讲的。就是that 代替关系副词的问题。给你一个例子,是去年高一(2003年人教社版)英语课本上的。When I was a child,I was afraid of hospitals。My parents dragged me to the hospital each time I was ill。关于这样的句子,近些年也有一种说法,认为each time用作连词,引导时间状语从句。只要time表示“次数”时,都有类似的用法。又如:I fell in love with her the first time I saw her。这句话也可以理解为: I fell in love with her for the first time when/(that) I saw her。
