这句话应该用固定句型"A is to B what C is to D"意思是"A对于B正如C对于D一样"。所以上句话用英语说应为: Dreams are to man what wings are to birds.意思是"理想对于人来说正如翅膀对于鸟那样",其言外之意就是"人没有了理想就象鸟儿没有了翅膀"。我们的翻译不能太过于中国式化,不要总是按中国人的思维方式去看英文,毕竟我们的文化是不同的。
